like this colored pencil drawing I did a few months ago,
However, there was no character or fun elements in my drawings. I realized that I didn't really have my own style. Don't get me wrong, I'm damn proud of some of the things I've create like this picture above, but, the process felt more tedious than fun or relaxing, and in the end, the only thing I saw in it that reflected me was my interest in Ancient Egyptian history.
Creating things from my own imagination was a challenge for me. Sometimes I wanted to just sit down with a cup of hot tea and create something out of nothing without using a reference or searching for ideas. It usually ended with a blank piece of paper, frustration, and cold tea.
This all changed when I accidently came across art journaling. I read a few blogs, then a few more, then I started watching youtube videos about art journaling. BLEW. MY. MIND! So, I started my own! Keeping an art journal has really helped me to LET GO and just create. I was able to relax and not focus on getting everything perfect. Now I can focus on having fun. After all, isn't that what it's all about? No rules, no limits, no worries! Just mind settling FUN!
Here's a flip of my first completed art journal!
Hope you enjoyed!
Many blessings,
-Alicia
